For one of my classes at UW I have the opportunity/assignment to watch and review a minimum of eight films at this years Seattle International Film Festival. I have had a blast watching films from all over the world this week and I'm looking forward to the next two weeks. Most of the films we watch in school and at SIFF are heavy, morose dramas. I think that it is important to be challenged and even provoked at times while watching a film. However, I also think that sometimes it is nice to incorporate some levity into your day. I just got back from watching Marc Webb's (500) Days of Summer and I was so caught off guard by how much I loved it. I was completely wrapped up in the relationship between Tom and Summer and wanted to see it again the moment it was over. I'm sure that by this time next year I will be annoyed by it (I'm lookin' at you Juno) but I don't think I'll soon for get how much fun I had today. Someone go see it so we can talk about it. (500) Days of Summer opens wide July 17th but will be playing at SIFF June 8th and 9th at the Egyptian.
Here's a little taste...
