Oh Coco

It has been well documented on our blog that Mandy and I are big fans of Conan O'Brien. When we found out that Coco was taking his act on the road we jumped at the chance to see him live. Conan's "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour" (the tour's name is a nod to NBC's demands in their settlement that Conan not be able to appear on TV in a comic setting until November) made it to Seattle on April 19th. The show consists of stand up, music, sketches and Eddie Murphy's purple leather suit from Raw. It was fun to see Conan, Andy, Triumph and La Bamba (no Max or Pimpbot unfortunately)as well as some classic Walker TX Ranger clips and the inflatable bat from Meat Loaf's "Bat Out of Hell" tour. In addition to the warm up act, Seattle's own Reggie Watts, Conan had special guests show up throughout the tour. Jon Stewart, Stephan Colbert, Jon Hamm, Spoon, Vampire Weekend, Mike Tyson, Tina Fey and Paul Rudd were among some of Conan's friends who appeared throughout the tour. We were lucky enough to have Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready from Pearl Jam make an appearance at our gig. When Eddie came out I about lost it. I'm sure I embarrassed Mandy because I was screaming like a girl. Ed Ved sang two songs off his Into the Wild soundtrack. He then sang a rendition of John Lennon's "Oh Yoko" switching the lyrics to "Oh Coco". After his brief solo set McCready came out and along with the "Legally Prohibited Band" the guys played a thirteen minute version of The Who's "Baba O'Riley". I was losing it; pure jubilation! To quote Conan's twitter "Eddie Vedder's set at my show last night in Seattle melted my eyeballs. Seriously. I'm going to sue Eddie for boiling my ocular-jelly." We couldn't have said it better ourselves. We had so much fun and it was worth every penny. The show should be able to tide us over til his new show hits the air on TBS in October. In the meantime we will be rooting for Coco next month when he is up for an Emmy for his short stint as host of The Tonight Show.
